In the XVIII century on the site of today's building was the City Hall department. The current building was built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century by Bronislaw Zochowskiego-Brodzic. The property was inhabited (1836) by the parents of famous Polish composer Frederic Chopin. In addition, in the building in 1861 lived Teodor Jozef Konrad Korzeniowski, better known under the name of Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) famous novelist writing in English. In 1892, was established in building the famous editors of the weekly touring "Wedrowiec". In the years 1924 - 1929 lived here composer Karol Szymanowski, who next to Frederic Chopin is considered one of the greatest Polish composers.
